INSPIRATION TEAM

KATHY
Hello, Quilt Fans!

I am so excited to have the opportunity to share the quilt world with all of you! I've been quilting for almost 25 years (yup, started when I was 3, LOL!), and taking over BJ's is easily the biggest project I've ever taken on.

Besides quilting, I enjoy training my crazy mini Aussie in the dog sport of agility. All my kids have paws - three dogs and a cat, so fur is a given in my house! I escaped the Silicon Valley rat race in 2000 and have been in Central Oregon ever since.  I love scrappy quilts, improvisational piecing, hand embellishment, surface design, and sharp points.  I use a lot of batiks and bold fabrics, but love neutrals, 30's, floral prints - you name it, I love it. Please stop by the shop to say hi, show your work and admire the new samples and fabrics we're bringing in.

STACY

I have been quilting for about 17 years, and have loved every moment of my creative journey. I grew up on the Oregon Coast in a creative family. My parents were crafty and taught me the love for handmade items early in life. I moved to Bend in 2007 with my 3 kiddos and quickly found BJ's a great place to come for "fabric therapy."

I offically became part of the team here in January of 2012. For the first time in many years I have found that I LOVE going to work! I have enjoyed teaching classes, being a part of our First Satuday Block of the Month, and getting to know so many wonderful fellow quilters. I have an ecclectic taste when it comes to fabrics, I have yet to find many fabrics I don't like! I would say my style is "Tradionally Modern," I love traditional style patterns with modern fabrics. I hope to meet many more of you in the coming years, and sharing my passion for quilting with you.

Many Blessings & Happy Quilting!

Stacy

SUSAN

I come from a long line of folks who value and appreciate the art of the hand made. That love of creativity was passed on to me through my parents, and at the age of 12 I started my own quilting career when I took on the project of finishing a 16-block quilt top that my mom had started. I kept that completed quilt top neatly folded in storage until years later when my "bonus" Grandmother Alvina and some of her friends at her retirement community hand-quilted it for me. It has served many years of wonderful use and will always be a treasure.

While I have always admired and appreciated traditional quilts I have grown to love quilts with an independent "twist". The quilts made by the women of Gee's bend have always drawn me in and continue to inspire me. My love has recently transitioned to modern quilts and now rests solidly within the genre of the abstract art quilt. And, while I will still continue to work with traditional style quilts from patterns, my goal is to create my own designs. The work of quilt artists Valerie S. Goodwin, Sandra Meech, and Jean Wells has strongly influenced me and has inspired me to follow my own path.

I am excited to be a member of BJ's Inspiration Team and am truly honored when I am involved in the process of assisting our customers with fabric and design choices. I also love it when our customers return to the store to share their completed projects with us - these are truly special moments. I look forward to seeing you in the store. Susan
