Sally Schneider-
Albuquerque, NM
Sally is a quilt designer and author Sally Schneider of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sally has been quilting since 1971, and has made several hundred quilts since then, mostly by machine, although she has two completely hand-made quilts to her credit. Sally's specialty is Built-In Borders; her book on that subject is Designing With Built-In Borders (see ordering information). With this method, you can make complex pieced borders as blocks, rather than long strips that may or may not fit your quilt. Sally has re-designed ten different borders that can be made using this block method. Sally has been active in the quilt making field as a teacher since 1980, as a quilt book editor from 1995-1998, and in 1999, she served as a selection panelist for the 20th Century's 100 Best American Quilts. She was nominated as one of the American Quilter's Society's All American Teachers, and in 2007 she was a nominee for Professional Quilter magazine's Professional Teacher of the Year.
My introduction to the quilting world has been an unusual one. I have been blessed with a creative eye, being a hairdresser for 30 years, decorating my homes and keeping my children in wonderful Halloween costumes. I had decided that the quilt patterns were too complicated, and intimidating for me, therefore if I could write something that I would understand I could sell it to others thinking the same way as myself. We are so busy in our lives, yet we still yearn to give homemade gifts. There isn’t a word in our vocabulary that can bring more heartfelt feelings that the word “Quilt”. We all wish we had one, love the one that we have and yearn to make one. The pride and passion that I felt after finishing my first quilt is still in my heart. I wanted to bring that feeling to others and show them that they too could share in this accomplishment and pride of making a handmade quilt from the heart. My company will continue to write patterns that will make the non-quilter a believer in themselves and give the traditional quilter a beautiful quilt that is finished in a fraction of the time of a pieced quilt. What matters most is the pride and accomplishment of finishing a project and feeling a passion while you are doing it.

Sue Wilson & Betty Slezak- Huron, OH Representing Cotton Theory www.quiltyard.com
Betty Slezak and Sue Wilson are a mother-daughter team with a combined total of 55 years of traditional quilting experience. Betty and Sue were fortunate enough to be students in one of Betty Cotton’s first classes in the Cleveland, Ohio area in 2001, and from that moment on, found themselves hooked on Cotton Theory. Both have trained with Betty extensively, and have taught Cotton Theory in a variety of venues for the past three years. When they are not behind their sewing machines working on their latest project, you might find Betty and Sue manning the Cotton Theory booth at a convention or helping Betty Cotton with sewing projects at her home in Wisconsin. Betty and Sue split their time between Ohio and Alaska, where Sue’s husband works as a fishing guide.
About Certification:
We know that having a certificate is not required to teach Cotton Theory quilting. But here’s something to think about….Sue holds several licenses in counseling and family therapy. In Ohio, those licenses are required in order to her to work in her profession. Some states require no license in order to perform therapy. In those states, the quality of therapy clients receive when they go for counseling is sometimes good, sometimes horrid. Cotton Theory quilting is the same way. We have spent an extensive amount of time with Betty Cotton. We understand her techniques, common mistakes students make, and how to help them leave a class feeling good about themselves and their work.
